Propylene glycol is an organic compound. Like ethylene glycol, it is odorless, colorless and has a sweet taste. It is also similar to ethylene glycol due to its miscible characteristics. This glycol is food safe and is used in the food industry. The glycol is used to absorb access water and retain moisture in certain products. Like ethylene glycol, it can be used as an antifreeze for airport runways. Propylene glycol is preferably used in food applications. That is because this glycol is very low in toxicity. Propylene glycol is used in electronic cigarettes, coffee-based drinks, ice cream, whipped dairy products and vaporizers for medical purposes. Instead of a blue florescent die, a pink die is added to note its low toxicity and environmental friendly status.
